Holy Crapola..

I read this on Junkfood Science last night.
Seriously amazing.

Really sucks for all the people out thousands of dollars… Of course, that money was basically in the tubes already.
Would you rather pay a thousand dollars, get scolded like a child, stress out your heart, increase your chances of cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and altered immune function, and at the end of it all, still be fat…. OR just be out the thousand bucks?
Can I pick neither?

Thanks LA Weightloss! For cutting to the chase!!

I shouldn’t feel so giddy, I guess to see a great big bloodsucking corporation fail… but I do.

Read this today, too, and thought about the hundreds of times I saw those stupid L.A. Weightloss commercials on TV when I was living in South FL (seriously, it was LAWL and Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery every other commercial). I feel bad for the people who lost their money, but more because they were hustled out of cash by their own self-hatred.

On the tide of that, I would really enjoy seeing a video targetting how awful dieting can be. Were you really interested in that idea? I was thinking of some family sitcom that takes a serious turn during one episode and the whole cast gets together after the show is over to discuss the severity of the issue and provides helpful resources. Totally corny, but probably made a difference for a lot of people.

Now if we could just get Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, NutriSystem, et al to go the same way.

Speaking as someone who did LA Weight Loss, a thousand is a serious lowball estimate.

After reading the story, I went to the LA weight loss website and it’s still up and running. Even has a blip to check them out in the January 14, 2008 issue of People.

Yeah, I tried that too, but when you try and enter your zip to “find a center near you” the page just keeps refreshing itself.

Also, a bunch of members/employees are talking about the company lying until the last minute here

My husband did LA weight loss around 5 years ago. He didn’t pay much for it because he was in radio at the time and got the services in exchange for doing advertising on the radio. However, one of the things he talked about was how much they pushed their supplements. They even told him that since he wasn’t purchasing the supplements etc. that they “couldn’t guarantee his weight loss”. You gotta love an industry that sells you a bad product and then when it doesn’t work it’s because you didn’t do it right.

    Love your blog Joy!

My husband and I actually went to an L.A. Weight Loss center a few years ago. We sat down with a “counselor,” and we would have had to come up with $2000 for both of us to lose weight. No wonder these thieves went out of business!
