I’m on TV!

RIGHT NOW! well… maybe.
I’m going to be on the Morning Show with Mike and Juliet…

or New Old Man Young Woman as Timothy McNerny has christened them.

I’m supposed to be on with MeMe Roth

She’s the woman who says Jordin Sparks is too fat too be a role model for little kids.

I think I’m gonna try and give her a hug.

When you going to have another video up?

I loved the rant, you actually helped me to go out and buy clothes the right size in bold colors. Now I stand out as someone who’s not ashamed instead of someone who hides behind baggy clothes hoping someone will think “sheโ€™s not fat, she just wears big clothes”.

    ….Joy,(young lady)… from the both of us,Tim & Gigi.
We saw the show.you looked, and acted, extremely classy, as always.love the way you carried yourself before, and then quietly thru, all of the “garbage”.much of the common “back and forth” that happens in these cases so often was missing. itwent mostly in one direction.that is where you showed so much class !! good for you. we want you to have the best, as always..Tim & Gigi : ) : ) : )

Joy, You speak beautifully for all of us women out there who feel we fall short because we do not meet the ridiculous standards society has tried to impose upon us. ~ Thank you for using your heart, your voice and your beautiful life to inspire and vindicate us all. ~ You’re BRILLIANT!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love ‘fat rant’ gives many things to think about.
I didn’t see the show, I hope we get to see your part online sometime soon.

Sweet Jesus, that monster picture was effective. I’m already laid up because of my leg and I have to make an Olympian effort to get to the bathroom, I don’t need to wet myself! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

But yeah, I know it’s late to be responding, but I saw the video, and I agree with both you and that Kelly woman at the end: it’s not about weight, it’s about how you take care of yourself, and like Kelly said, there’s this rampant misconception that anyone who does these things will be thin, and that’s not the case with everyone. People are so quick to generalize, we love our stereotypes, and it keeps many people from missing this; that there are many contributing factors to how a body is able (or in-able) to manage its weight.
Now, I admit that I don’t exercise as often as I should, and that I love my food, but I do think that it’s possible for someone to be fat and fit… it’s just not possible according to the public’s knowledge.

Meme kept trying to rethink the arguments and statements that she had already presented in her bloody, televised feast of Jordin Sparks, which made me grin a little. We should stop focusing on what’s being “normalized,” and stop placing each other in categories, as if we’re all the same based on our weight, and stop making assumptions about each other.

Keep up the great work, Joy! The world needs your message.

Good lord, how did this Mimi woman not address the fact that dramatically underweight bodies have been not just normalized, but glorified in the media? Where’s her rant about loss of bone density, fertility and heart problems? She seems strangely silent on those matters.

Funny, this weekend I had the sad experience of watching two plus-sized tween girls buy Norbit (you know, that two-hour fat joke). I wonder if they know that the slender heroine (Thandie Newton) still has scars on her knuckles from her struggles with an eating disorder? I’m curious how they process the implicit morality presented (thin=good, fat=host of sins). I’m wondering what parent in their right mind helps perpetuate this by giving his daughters money to be assaulted by this message in the privacy of their own home. I’m sad that this will be reinforced, not just in crappy Eddie Murphy vehicles, but by a host of health “professionals” and “experts”.

Love your bodies ladies, so long as they’re size 5!

    *sigh*

An aside, I saw you at Fat Girl Speaks and I’m a fatshionista member–in any all arenas, you absolutely rock!
